Online Therapy

I now offer online therapy to residents of Texas, where I am licensed to practice, through secure, private and confidential online therapy software provided by Breakthrough.com. Some insurance panels cover online therapy and this can be verified upon initial request for online therapy services. If your health insurance provider does not cover online mental health therapy, my self-pay rate for these services is $75 per hour. My Breakthrough profile can be found at the following link: http://pinson.breakthrough.com. If you’ve got any questions at all just let me know. I will be happy to help you figure out whether Breakthrough makes sense for you.

Pros to online therapy

  • If you are in a remote area that is not close to a counseling practice you can engage in therapy from home
  • If you are home bound you can still engage in therapy from the comforts of home
  • You can choose a single consultation or ongoing therapy
  • You can engage in therapy even while traveling
  • Online therapy is generally more affordable for self-pay clients than face to face therapy
  • Online therapy can be less intimidating for some clients than face to face therapy
  • You can keep the same therapist if you tend to relocate within the state of Texas often
  • Don’t have to have the perceived stigma of going to a counseling office

Cons of online therapy

  • Problems associated with technology failures (power outages, crashes, etc.)
  • The requirement of being comfortable with computers and keyboards
  • You possibly may miss face to face interaction of traditional therapy

You should not consider online therapy if

  • You have serious thoughts of hurting yourself or others
  • You have a chronic mental illness requiring intense treatment
  • You prefer face-to-face therapy and it is available to you
  • You are uncomfortable with computers and keyboards
